Laoshan Village Black Tea is from Laoshan Village in the Shandong Province of China. It is located on the Yellow Sea coast across from South Korea at an elevation of 1,000 feet. The temperate monsoon climate is ideal for growing quality tea and the locals give credit to the balance between the “yang” of the granite mountains and the “yin” of the Yellow Sea. The teas in Laoshan Village are produced from the Longjing #43 cultivar and are hand-harvested and hand-processed. The early-May harvested leaves undergo rustic, traditional processing methods that require a lengthy oxidation step of three days in the sun, followed by a light roasting in a hot-air, tumbler.
The small, tippy leaves unfurl to yield a very smooth, sweet and thick, medium- to full-bodied infusion with wonderful rich notes of chocolate, caramelized sugar, toasted grain and a hint of floral.
