Hojicha is an organic green tea that is produced on the Pacific coast in the low-lying area of the city of Makinohara in the Shizuoka Prefecture of Japan. The region benefits from a humid, temperate, marine climate and is ideal for growing tea. Hojicha is a roasted green tea and ours is made from Sencha, as opposed to the usual lower-grade Bancha, leaves.
The leaves yield a light- to medium-bodied, mellow and smooth infusion that is full-flavored with savory, nutty, earthy, and slightly sweet notes and a rich and toasty aroma. The roasting process reduces the amount of caffeine in the leaves.
