Zi Juan "Purple Beauty" Green Tea is from the Jingmai mountainous region in the southern part of the Yunnan Province in China. It is crafted from the Zi Juan cultivar of the Large-Leaf Yunnan type of the tea plant, which has been bred over time for its unique characteristics. The dark purple-green color of the leaves is due to the presence of anthocyanins, purple-colored antioxidants that give the purple-blue-red hues to blueberries, eggplants, red cabbage, cherries, etc.
The large, twisted leaves unfurl to yield a very smooth, balanced, light-bodied infusion with a subtle thickness and sweet, savory, vegetal, and subtle roasted and notes and bitterness. This is very unique and pleasant and lacks the astringency of a typical green.
