2025 Wild Tree Sheng-Style Vietnam Dark Tea is a post-fermented tea from Lao Cai Province in northwestern Vietnam. Located at an elevation above 6,500 feet near the border with Yunnan Province in China, the wild-growing Camellia sinensis assamica trees in the ancient forests of Bat Xat District benefit from a cool, sub-temperate highland microclimate. Similar to the Cloud Mist teas of China, these plants are bathed in clouds and mist that imparts a particular chemistry within the leaf yielding a thicker infusion and more savory notes. After harvest, the leaves are pan-fired to remove some of the moisture and halt any oxidation. They are then rolled and sun-dried, followed by a short aging that allows some fermentation and mellowing of the leaves.
The leaves yield a smooth, balanced, complex, clean and quenching light- to medium-bodied infusion with the typical notes of a Sheng Pu-er tea - wet earth, forest floor, hay, fruity, subtle lively bitterness and a lingering sweetness.
Leaves may be infused multiple times.
