Makinoharo Estate Genmaicha, also known as brown rice tea, is a green tea that is produced on the Pacific coast in the low-lying area of the city of Makinohara in the Shizuoka Prefecture of Japan. This estate is the largest tea plantation in Asia and it produces about 30% of the tea in Shizuoka. The region benefits from a humid, temperate, marine climate and is ideal for growing tea. Our Genmaicha is a blend of high quality Sencha, as opposed to the usual lower-grade Bancha, and roasted and partially puffed brown rice.
This blend yields a smooth, light-bodied infusion that balances the fresh, vegetal character of the sencha with the toasty and nutty notes of the brown rice.
