Oriental Beauty is a rare Wulong Tea grown and produced on the Moc Chau Plateau in the Son La Province in northern Vietnam. It is grown at higher elevations between 3,600 and 3,900 feet in rich soil and a humid subtropical mountain climate. This style of wulong is traditional to Taiwan, first being produced only in the 1930’s from small-leaf cultivars. Its production in Vietnam is similar to that produced in Taiwan, being harvested by hand only after jassids, a type of leap-hopper insect, land on and nibble the leaves. Due to chemical reactions taking place in the bug-bitten leaves, they begin to undergo natural oxidation while still on the plant. After harvest, the leaves and buds are then further oxidized to around 60-70% and carefully hand-rolled into a beautiful twisted leaf.
Beautiful, multi-colored leaves yield a smooth, balanced, medium-bodied infusion with stone fruit and honey notes, a hint of spice and a lingering sweetness.
Leaves may be infused multiple times.
