Tumoi Tea Farm Purple Leaf is a green tea that is grown and produced on the Tumoi Tea Farm in the Nandi Hills in the highlands of western Kenya. The plants grow in the rich, volcanic soils at an elevation about 6,700 feet. This tea is produced from the purple leaf cultivar, which is a cultivar of the Camellia sinensis assamica type of the tea plant that was created by Kenyan researchers in the 1980’s. The tea leaves are rich in anthocyanins, which are responsible for their purple hue.
The easy-to-brew, hand-harvested and hand-processed leaves yield a smooth and balanced light- to medium-bodied infusion that has a mild flavor and sweet, fresh, vegetal and fruity notes.
