Okayti Estate Golden Treasure Organic is from the famous tea-producing Darjeeling Region in the foothills of the Himalayas in the state of West Bengal in northeastern India. Established in the 1870's along the Mechi River that borders Nepal, the 1600-acre estate is located in the Mirik Valley at an elevation of 4,000 to 6,800 feet. The Camellia sinensis sinensis variety of the tea plant thrives in the subtropical highland climate. The one-leaf-and-a-bud-pluck is harvested in July and crafted into a delightfully unique black tea that is uncharacteristic of a typical Darjeeling tea.
Beautiful golden, tippy leaves yield a smooth, viscous and sweet, medium- to full-bodied infusion that is rich and complex with notes of cacao, caramel, malt and fruit. A rare treat!
