Wild Tree Purple Leaf Black Tea is from from Dehong Prefecture in the mountainous region in the westernmost part of Yunnan Province, China. This tea is harvested from tea trees of the naturally-occurring Purple Leaf variety, Ye Sheng, which is believed to pre-date Camellia sinensis assamica. They grow wild in the forests located at an elevation between 5,200 and 7,200 feet. After harvest, the leaves are delicately processed and receive a light roasting.
The leaves yield a smooth, stimulating, aromatic, and complex medium-bodied infusion that is sweet and savory with rich, herbaceous, and sugarcane notes that linger. A rare tea, as only about 80 kg are produced in spring each year!
